The 3LPE (Three-Layer Polyethylene) coating system is commonly used for external corrosion protection of steel pipes.
Three Layers:
Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE): The first layer is a high-performance FBE coating that adheres to the steel surface. It provides excellent corrosion resistance.
Copolymer Adhesive: The second layer acts as an adhesive, ensuring strong bonding between the FBE and the outer layer.
Outer Layer (HDPE or MDPE): The third layer consists of either High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) or Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE). This layer offers protection against external corrosion.
Benefits of 3LPE Coating:
Corrosion Resistance: The 3LPE system provides superior long-term corrosion resistance.
Mechanical Protection: It offers excellent mechanical protection for both small and large diameter pipelines.
High Temperature Performance: The tough outer HDPE layer remains effective even at high temperatures.
Applications:
3LPE-coated pipes are commonly used in buried and submerged pipeline transportation systems for petroleum and natural gas industries.
